Ok bestie, get your blanket and your mug of tea ready, because we are diving back into the Twilight universe (yes, again, and we love it 💕). Do you remember Alice Cullen, the ultra-stylish and adorable vampire played by Ashley Greene? Well, the actress just revealed that her character had a much deeper impact than she imagined.
Alice Cullen, an unexpected icon 🧛♀️
Ashley Greene portrayed Alice Cullen in the 5 Twilight films, from 2008 to 2012. For many of us, she was the perfect best friend: fun, optimistic, always there for Bella… and with that little mysterious side that made her irresistible.
But what the actress didn’t know at the time is that Alice was for many fans a true “gay awakening” (their moment of realizing their orientation).
Ashley confided to Insider:
“Many people told me that Alice was their gay awakening. At the time, I didn’t get it, but today, I totally understand why.”
And guess what? The very first time a fan confessed this to her, Ashley actually cried. 😭 So cute.
The magical impact of Twilight ✨
We already know that Twilight marked an entire generation (hello Team Edward vs Team Jacob pajama parties 🐺🦇). But for Ashley, learning that her character helped people accept and love themselves is “incredible.”
She shares:
“We know that Twilight had a huge impact, but the fact that it allowed people to be themselves is even more special.”
And admit it, do you also see Alice as the ideal best friend who brightens everyone’s life? Ashley says that even today, nearly 10 years after the saga ended, fans still call her “Alice.” And she doesn’t mind at all. 💖
Between memories and new projects 🎬
Even though the filming wasn’t always “all rosy” (five years working together = a bit of drama, it makes sense 😅), Ashley has a lot of fondness for that period.
Today, she reflects on this adventure with her podcast The Twilight Effect, which she hosts with her BFF Melanie “Mel” Howe. The goal? To dive back into the Twilight universe and share all the behind-the-scenes with fans. The first two episodes are set to be released on March 15, and clearly… we’ll be there. 🔮
Why we still love Alice Cullen ❤️
Alice is more than a secondary character. She’s a queer icon, a dream friend, a sister at heart to Bella… and a source of inspiration for thousands of fans. No wonder we’re still obsessed with her after all these years.
So, has Alice Cullen left a deeper mark on you than you admit? 👀 Let me know in the comments if you were more of a Team Alice, or if another Twilight figure changed something for you.
